Coach Sands, Head Coach
Dale Sands returns to the role as head coach and coach mentor. During his six years with the Junior Gaels, he moved from assistant coach with both the junior and senior teams before taking on the head coach role for the past three years. He has also been a running back coach and offensive assistant at Frontenac Secondary School for five years, leading teams to KASSAA and OFSSAA Championships. Coach Sands also works with the offence on the Queen's Gaels coaching staff. In 2019, Coach Sands was awarded the Berk Brean Award for the High School Coach of the Year and the Sports Builder Award from the Kiwanis Club of Kingston. His tireless work ethic and dedication to his players and coaches are invaluable assets to our organization.
Coach Gregg, Offensive Coordinator
Jr. Gaels Football welcomes Nick Gregg for his first year with the organization and as a member of the Kingston community. Coach Gregg brings extensive experience in coaching this age group as quarterback coach for the CEGEP de l’Outaouais Griffons, assistant offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach with the Ottawa Invaders, who were two-time league champions in the Northern Football Conference, and as quarterback and receiver coach at Football North St. Joes. In Australia, Coach Gregg was the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach with the Queensland Sun Devils national team and the quarterback coach with the Sunshine Coast Spartans. He has recently been named as the quarterback coach for the Queen’s Gaels.
Jr. Gaels Football also welcomes Matthew Nesbitt to his first year with the organization. Coach Nesbitt has six years' experience coaching this age group with the Jr. Gryphons, Team Ontario U16 and U17, and the U17 Canada Eastern Team. Coach Nesbitt also acted as offensive coordinator with the Windsor Lancers, assistant offensive coordinator at Guelph and the assistant offensive line coach for the Toronto Argos. In his playing days, Coach Nesbitt was an offensive lineman with the Guelph Gryphons serving as captain of the 2015 Yates Cup Champion team. In March he joined the Queen’s Gaels staff as the offensive line coach. Known for caring about his players, we are excited by the football knowledge Coach Nesbitt brings to our organization.
Queen’s fifth-year linebacker Kurtis Shaefer is back for a second year as the Jr. Gaels senior defensive coordinator. The Stittsville native majors in physical education and wears #40 for the Gaels.
Queen’s offensive lineman Nick Pinard returns as a second year as OL coach with the Varsity Jr. Gaels. Hailing from Saint-Eustache, Quebec the arts and science major wears #50 with the Gaels.
Queen’s offensive lineman Jacob Butler is a first-time OL coach with the senior Jr. Gaels. The native of Chilliwack, British Columbia is an engineering major and wears #62 for the Gaels.
Queen’s fifth-year running back Marquis Richards returns to the Jr. Gaels to coach the senior RBs for a third year. The biology major hails from Brampton and wears #30 for the Gaels.
Queen’s defensive back Thompson McCallum returns to coach the senior DBs for a second year. The sociology majors hails from Mississauga and wears #22 for the Gaels.
Queen’s quarterback Brendan Steele is a former GMen returning as the offensive coordinator and QB coach for the Jr. Gaels team. The Frontenac SS graduate is a commerce major wearing #6 for the Gaels.
Coach Ty Sands
Four-year GMen graduate Ty Sands returns for a second year as the defensive coordinator with the Junior Varsity squad. After an injury ended his football career, the Frontenac SS graduate is currently in the Child and Youth Care program at St. Lawrence College.
Queen’s offensive lineman Josh Mosley is a first-year OL coach with the junior team. The Port Colbourne native is an arts and science major wearing #66 with the Gaels.
Queen’s receiver Matt McDonald is a first-time coach with the junior team and a four-year graduate of the GMen program. The product of Holy Cross CSS is an arts and science major wearing #88 for the Gaels.
Queen’s defensive back Perry Amankwaah is a first-year DB coach with the Junior Varsity team. The Brampton native is an arts and science major wearing #7 with the Gaels.
Queen’s linebacker Jake Jefferies played one year as a GMen and returns for his first year as a LB coach with the Jr. Varsity team. The local graduate of Holy Cross CSS is an arts and science major and wears #45 with the Gaels.
Queen’s kicker Nick Liberatore is back to coach for a second year with the junior varsity team. The Dartmouth, NS native is an arts and science major and wears #2 for the Gaels.
